Do HDMI cables make a difference in picture quality? Can a HDMI cable go bad? HDMI cables can go bad. The most common place for a problem is a bad connection between the cable and the device. This is especially true if you are plugging and unplugging the cable regularly. We hear a lot about it, and you can even buy a 4K television.
In fact, it hardly exists at all. You can compare the pixel sizes of these formats in the following image:. The maximum screen resolution for a DVD is x pixels. The maximum resolution for a FullHD Blu-ray movie is x pixels. The new 4K standard is twice the width and height of a Blu-ray movie, or x pixels. There is also the mysterious 4K x 2K, indicated in blue in the above image.
It seems it was introduced with the movie Avatar in theaters. You can buy a 4K television. There are very few 4K content sources available yet, even through online services. It appears that will finally see the widespread introduction of Ultra HD Blu-ray players. And that means we should start seeing more movies starting to appear for sale in Ultra HD Blu-ray format.
In short, you play a normal FullHD Blu-ray disc, and the player will quadruple the number of pixels. You will need to buy a new player that supports the new 4K disc standard if you want true 4K on your fancy 4K TV. Wait for a real Ultra HD Blu-ray player! Not really.
Current HDMI 1. That means your future Blu-ray 4K player will send a x pixel image to your 4K TV 24 times every second.
That standard was also finalized relatively recently. The prices have come down dramatically in the past few years. And as with Blu-ray vs. As for the improved resolution of 4K, I must say that to my eye, you can definitely tell a difference. There is also the fact that Ultra HD Blu-ray also comes with some new color enhancement tricks.
When paired with a modern 4K TV, you will probably notice richer colors, deeper blacks, and so on. Of course! But, as it turns out, most indications are that 4K resolution is already approaching the limits of your average human eyeball. So, there you have it. Add in some faster screen refresh rates, a few color tricks here and there, some new compression and audio formats, and you have a new standard.
I was curious to know if it is worth it to pair it with a 4k upscaling blu ray player or if my tv would do the upscaling better than the player.
Usually I would go with letting the TV do the upscaling. Your email address will not be published. Notify me of follow-up comments by email. Notify me of new posts by email. This site uses Akismet to reduce spam.

Vila Well-known Member. Your player is outputting the movies correctly at 24p rather than converting to 60hz with pulldown. Hi so is 24hz equivalent to 24p? Im not familiar with your projector but most likely yes 24hz will your projectors appropriate mode for correctly displaying 24p material, My projector and TV report Blu Rays and films on Netflix from my Apple TV as being 24p. Many early netflix capable devices 'put' everything out at 60p but increasingly better devices will switch frame rates to match the source.
WTF Just Happened: My New HDTV Makes Movies Look Unnaturally Smooth
P and hz are not the same thing. There is no 24p apart from maybe a watch. Hz is how many times the image is refreshed a second. P stands for progressive and is related to how many lines of resolution are on your screen, p meaning all lines are refreshed at the same time rather than i where every second line is refreshed at a time.
Vila said:. There is no 24p, 50p or 60p. You are confusing hz and p. And they cannot be interchanged. Last edited: Dec 17, Hi no I am not asking about frame rates it refresh rates I am interested in.
The projector maxes out at 70hz, my question was that Netflix shows films at 60hz but my player shows them when playing a 4k disk at 24hz although the player is capable of 60hz playback, do I have a setup problem.
Netflix shows films at 60hz. It does when I play a 4k movie from Netflix just before the film start in the top left hand corner it says at 60 hz. So what does that mean??.Everything is crisp, tack-sharp, and impossibly clear.
Colors are vivid and lush, blacks are as deep as the night sky. But details are not without their cost.
While your wallet is open for the 4K monitor, go ahead and keep it open for a high-end graphics card. Gaming in 4K requires your graphics card to process huge amounts of information in the blink of an eye, and for that, you need to make sure your graphics card has the headroom it needs. Fortunately, there are more cards that are 4K-capable today than ever before, even if none of them are cheap.
The older GTX and Ti are both great 4K cards in their own rights but are almost impossible to find at reasonable prices brand new. Another option that some consider for 4K gaming is twin graphics cards in SLI or Crossfire configurations. As for laptops, 4K gaming is still rather difficult.
Gaming PCs typically pack a powerful central processor and high-speed memory, but they take a secondary role behind the graphics card when running a system at 4K. You can also read our AMD vs. Intel argumentwhich essentially compares their current and future presence in the desktop and laptop markets.
You could spend over one thousand dollars on high refresh rates and syncing technologies, or a couple of hundred on a more entry-level offering. What you opt for is going to be dependent on budget, as much as its desired features and specifications. Size is an important consideration too. There are also some scaling problems in certain games and professional software. Some allow you to scale the interface up, but that can reduce sharpness, which is half the reason people buy 4K monitors in the first place.
With a 4K monitor ready to roll and a powerful graphics card champing at the bit, all you need to do is connect them to enjoy your beautiful new 4K setup.
How you do that can have a drastic effect on your experience. Support for the resolution was only introduced in HDMI 1. Instead, we suggest using a DisplayPort 1. You may also miss out on higher framerates, which are much more affordable at lower resolutions and some would argue are more important for a better gaming experience.

Netflix just before the film start in the top left hand corner it says at 60 hz. ChuckMountain said:. What is better on the picture out of interest? Depending on the player you may be able to tell the player the manual resolutions it supports so you want to switch off the "24p" ones and that will force the player to output in a different mode.
As others have correctly stated that is not a good thing. If you look at a panning shot at 24 fps it should be smoothed if displayed correctly at 24 fps. If you take it and reformat to 60 fps then the smooth panning shot will become stuttery.[4K/60FPS] Avengers - Infinity War - Official Trailer - 2018

In that case you wouldn't see a difference between competent devices, since the content is being slotted into 60Hz either way. So does a higher refresh rate alter the FPS output.
